SpectrumOutages.com is an independent outage tracking website. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have written it in plain English on purpose.
What We Collect:
When you submit an outage report, we collect:
- Your 5-digit ZIP code
- Which services are affected (internet, TV, phone, or mobile)
- When you think the problem started
- Any optional details you choose to type
- Your browser type and version
- A scrambled version of your IP address.
We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, street address, or Spectrum account number. You do not need an account to use this site or to submit a report.
Your IP address is scrambled before it is saved. Scrambling turns the address into a fixed string of characters that cannot be turned back into the original address. We use it only to stop the same person submitting the same report hundreds of times.
Why We Collect It:
We use report data to show live outage counts by city, state, and ZIP code, and to build the outage map.
Reports are combined with other reports before they are shown. Nobody browsing the site can see an individual submission or work out who sent it.
We use the scrambled IP address only to prevent spam and abuse. We do not use it to track you across the site or across the internet.
How Long We Keep It:
Outage reports are used for live status for 24 hours. After that, they move into our historical data, which stays on the site so people can see past outage patterns. Scrambled IP addresses are deleted after 30 days.
Cookies and Analytics:
We use a small number of cookies that are needed for the site to work, such as remembering a ZIP code you entered during your visit.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they use. This tool sets its own cookies and collects data such as your approximate location, browser, and the pages you view. You can read Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some conveniences may stop remembering your choices.
Advertising
This site is paid for by advertising. Our advertising partners may use cookies to show you ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google at google.com/settings/ads, and from many other networks at optout.aboutads.info.
Location
The "Near Me" page asks your browser for your location so it can show reports close to you. Your browser controls this permission, not us. If you say no, nothing happens, and the rest of the site works normally.
We use your location once, at the moment you ask, to find nearby reports. We do not save it, and we do not link it to you. You can remove the permission at any time in your browser settings.
Your Choices
Because we do not collect your name or email address, we usually cannot find a specific report and link it to you.
If you submitted a report and want it removed, contact us with the ZIP code, the date, and roughly what time you submitted it. We will do our best to find it and delete it.
If You Live in California
California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to ask for it to be deleted, and the right not to be treated differently for using those rights.
To use any of these rights, contact us at [email protected].
We do not sell your personal information for money. Under California law, sharing data with advertising partners for personalized ads may count as a "sale" or a "share". You can opt out using the links in the Advertising section above.
Children
This site is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted on the page itself.
